Hike: RT 8.0 (including Llama and Alpaca Peaks). For this weekend I returned to the Coquihalla region to hike the Zupjok-Llama-Alpaca Ridgewalk and spend the night on Alpaca Peak. Like my trip two weeks ago, the weather forecast was unstable but the chance of precipitation was minimal. I packed all my things in a plastic bag in case it rained.

Zupjok Peak was one of these. The hike starts at the Zopkios Ridge Rest Area and goes northwest following an old double track. Distance from Zupjok to Llama Peak (along the ridge) - 2.4km; Distance from Alpaca Peak (continue along the ridge) - 1.8km; This is a very good hike and the only drawback is the middle section which needs a work.

November 26, 2015 1835m Coquihalla Pass, BC Zupjok Peak is a small summit surrounded by the Coquihalla's jagged granite spires. This peak itself is not really an interesting objective but is often used to access the much-bigger Alpaca Peak a few kilometers back along the ridge. The ridge traverse would make a "moderate" winter objective without too much of complex terrain.

On the summit, looking at the final ascent to Alpaca You can kinda make out Zum Peak on the left, the rest of the Zopkios-area peaks are pretty obscured though Zupjok looks pretty far already The impressive peaks to the west, including Steinbok, Ibex, Gemse, Reh, and more Looking back along my skin track Probably didn't need to, I was working.

It was now the final peak of our long traverse from Zupjok Peak and Llama Peak and we were running a bit tight on time. I had a short 45 minute time span to get to the top from Llama Peak before.

To the north was the ridge hike to Llama and Alpaca Peaks, a much longer day hike (it would be a good overnight route). Beyond were Vicuna and Guanaco Peaks. We have hiked to the top of Guanaco three times in past years. To the northwest were the Anderson Peaks (Reh, Serna, Gemse, Gemuza, Steinbok, Ibex, and Chamois).

Alpaca is the peak in the back shrouded in clouds Anderson River Group, Coquihalla, BC 2063m. This trip report finishes things off from the top of Llama Peak, which I'd previously ascended on the way to Alpaca, the end of the traverse from Zupjok. The descent down from Llama to about 1870m is quite short, so that was only a couple minutes of skinned-skiing (still didn't want to waste time with.

The old FSR to get to the trail was a little overgrown and the turn off for Zupjok, Llama and Alpaca peaks was marked with a rock cairn. After the turn off, the trail was relatively flat, then there is a large elevation gain for Zupjok peak. After that, the trail stays along the ridge where breathtaking views of BC and Washington's Mountains.

At 22.5km long and 1,390m elevation gain, this trio of peaks is a fairly difficult hike, but it's more than possible to do even for an intermediate hiker. With an average gradient of 12.36%, though, this is a relatively steep hike, most of which is at the beginning, on the ascent of the first peak, Zupjok. Zupjok, Llama and Alpaca Peaks are.
