Humboldt's local band was formed in 1867 by J.C. Redfield, a local business owner and county band teacher. At that time the "bandstand" was a pair of Fairbanks wagon scales in the southwest corner of the square. If someone brought in a load of hay or coal to be weighed the band would stop until the load was weighed and on its way.
